Yankees and Mets: Bettors Predict Poor 2024 Season Despite Postseason Contender Status

Sports bettors shy away from Yankees and Mets as 2024 MLB season approaches

In the 2024 season, the New York Yankees and Mets are not expected to perform well according to betting public. Data from BetMGM Sportsbook shows that both teams are among the most bet-on teams to miss the playoffs, with only the Texas Rangers ahead of them.

Since their preseason, both teams have experienced a decline in their projected win totals. The Yankees have seen a significant decrease in their win total, going from 93.5 wins to 91.5 due to injuries that have affected the team. On the other hand, the Orioles have seen a slight increase in their win total, going from 87.5 to 90.5 wins.

Despite their struggles, the Yankees are still considered solid postseason contenders by oddsmakers. They have the second-best postseason odds in the American League behind only the Astros and tied with the Orioles at +180. In addition, they have received fewer bets than other teams in BetMGM’s sportsbook for winning their division within AL East.

The Mets, on the other hand, have experienced a decline in their win total as well, going from 82.5 to 81.5 after a disappointing 2023 season and a quiet offseason. They are considered long shots for making it into NL Wild Card race and have +145 odds of doing so, trailing eight other teams in National League . The Braves are favored to win NL East where Mets is not popularly bet to win division
