Global Youth Council Launched by TikTok to Enhance Teen Safety on Social Platform | TECHNOLOGY

TikTok has established a new program called the Global Youth Council, aimed at promoting the safety of teenagers on the platform. This initiative brings together 15 users aged between 15 and 18 from various countries to provide insights on well-being and inclusion on the platform. The social network, owned by ByteDance, already offers tools to protect minor users and ensure their safety, such as the Family Synchronization feature.

The goal of TikTok is to enhance security within the application, creating a safe space where young people can freely express themselves. The company announced plans to establish a Global Youth Council back in 2023, with the aim of listening to the experiences of young users. The council now consists of 15 teenagers from different countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Indonesia, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, and Morocco, representing various communities and defending young creators’ interests.

The Youth Council collaborates with the online security agency Praesidio Safeguarding, which provides expertise in security and digital well-being. The council recently held its second meeting, where members outlined their priorities for the year, focusing on the well-being and inclusion of young people. The council discussed redesigning the TikTok Youth Portal and gaining more insight into complaints and account blocking processes.

TikTok has conducted a global study in partnership with ConnectSafely, involving over 12,000 adolescents and their guardians
