Stephon Gilmore, the Panthers’ Veteran Cornerback, Pondering a Return to the Carolinas: Is it Possible?

Report: Panthers have made contact with Stephon Gilmore

Stephon Gilmore, a seasoned cornerback, is reportedly being considered by the Panthers for a return to the Carolinas. The 33-year-old played with the team in the latter part of the 2021 season after being traded from the Patriots for a sixth-round pick. During his time with the Panthers, Gilmore appeared in nine games with eight starts, recording 16 total tackles and two interceptions.

After leaving Carolina, Gilmore signed a two-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts and started in all 16 games in 2022. In 2023, he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys where he also started in all 17 games, playing 94 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. Throughout his career, Gilmore has played for several teams including the Bills, Patriots, Colts, and Cowboys. He has played in a total of 165 games and recorded 140 career passes defensed along with 31 interceptions.

Gilmore is currently ranked at No. 51 on PFT’s list of top 100 free agents. If he were to return to Carolina, his veteran presence could bring valuable experience and skill to their secondary. While it remains uncertain if a deal will be reached, Gilmore’s potential addition to the team could prove beneficial.
