Navy Basketball Star Maren Louridas Shines Both On and Off the Court

Maren Louridas earns spot on College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team

Maren Louridas, a sophomore at the Naval Academy, has been recognized for her outstanding performance on and off the basketball court. She was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team this week, following her selection to the 2023-24 Patriot League All-Academic Team. As one of six student-athletes from the conference to receive this nationwide accolade, Louridas is a standout in both sports and academics.

As a two-year starter for the Mids, she has excelled as a guard and forward, starting 60 of a possible 61 games and scoring 528 points with an average of 8.7 per game. She has also collected 317 rebounds, averaging 5.2 per game. Known for her one-on-one defense skills, Louridas rarely leaves the court and has played a total of 1,944 minutes over her two years at Navy. Her average of 31.9 minutes per game ranks fifth all-time in Navy’s career record book.

Louridas has also excelled in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA in cyber operations over her first three semesters at the Naval Academy. She has received three Commandant’s List accolades and was named to the 2022-23 Patriot League Honor Roll. In addition to her success on the court and in the classroom, Louridas is also known for her impressive leadership skills as she served as team captain during both seasons at Navy.

The Navy women’s basketball team had an impressive season in 2023-24, achieving one of the biggest single-season turnarounds in NCAA DI history by increasing their win total by 13 games and finishing in a four-way tie for fifth place in the Patriot League – just one game out of second place – which was no easy feat considering they were coming off an underperforming season where they finished last place in their division with only five wins
